The Premier League has unveiled its eight-player shortlist for the 2025/26 Player of the Season award, featuring several of the league’s most influential performers, including an England player aiming to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Strong representation from top clubs

The nominations are spread across several leading teams, with Arsenal contributing three players after a strong campaign. Their nominees are Declan Rice, David Raya, and Gabriel Magalhães, all of whom have been key to the club’s performances this season.

Manchester City are represented by Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Brentford forward Igor Thiago, and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White complete the shortlist.

England World Cup contender highlighted

Among the nominees, Morgan Gibbs-White stands out as an England hopeful, with his performances for Nottingham Forest boosting his chances of being considered for the national squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. His consistent form has made him one of the season’s most talked-about midfielders outside the traditional top clubs.

Season recognition for standout players

Bruno Fernandes has been recognised for his leadership and influence at Manchester United, playing a central role in the team’s attacking play. Erling Haaland remains one of the strongest contenders after another high-scoring season for Manchester City.

Arsenal’s trio also reflects their impressive season, with Rice controlling midfield, Gabriel strengthening the defence, and Raya delivering solid performances in goal.

With the shortlist now confirmed, the competition for the Player of the Season award is open and closely contested. The selection highlights both established stars and emerging talents, with added attention on players hoping to impress ahead of international duty at the 2026 World Cup.
