Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola has held Alejandro Garnacho responsible for the team’s 2-2 draw against Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

Chelsea appeared to have secured the win after Moises Caicedo struck late to give them a 2-1 lead, following an earlier equaliser from Cole Palmer, who came off the bench to cancel out Brentford’s opening goal.

However, their hopes were dashed when Fabio Carvalho netted a dramatic stoppage-time goal, capitalizing on a defensive lapse attributed to Garnacho, who failed to track his runner.

Garnacho, making his debut for Chelsea after a reported £40 million summer transfer, entered the match in the second half at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Speaking during post-match analysis, Zola commented: “The mistake is always the same. You start looking at the ball and you don’t see the man. It is the man who scores the goal, not the ball.”

Garnacho’s former club, Manchester United, also took notice of the blunder. Some Red Devils fans took to social media to mock the Argentine winger, still resentful over his decision to reject United and sign for their rivals.

One fan wrote: “Garnacho lost his man who scored and cost Chelsea two points in stoppage time, my night is made.” Another added: “Garnacho zero awareness to notice he has someone behind him.”
