Victor Osimhen has been officially ruled out of Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
The Galatasaray forward sustained an injury during the Super Eagles’ 1-0 win over Rwanda on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, forcing him to exit the match in the first half. He was substituted by Cyriel Dessers.
Following the game, head coach Eric Chelle noted that Osimhen would undergo evaluation before the team’s trip to South Africa.
However, a statement from the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, revealed that Osimhen experienced discomfort in his chin upon waking up on Sunday morning and will no longer be included in the traveling squad.
The 26-year-old is now expected to return to his club in Turkey for further medical care.
Nigeria’s clash with South Africa is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
