Ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle has described Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman as the best footballer in the world.
The crucial fixture is set to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, this Saturday, with both nations aiming for a vital win in their qualification campaign.
During a pre-match press conference, Chelle praised Lookman while addressing questions surrounding the Atalanta star’s inclusion in the squad.
Lookman, who is still recognized as the reigning African Footballer of the Year, missed out on a highly anticipated transfer to Inter Milan during the summer window. He has not featured in any matches for club or country since May 25, 2025.
Despite the absence of recent competitive action, Chelle maintained that Lookman is still the best player in Africa and justified his selection based on the forward’s quality and influence.
“About Lookman, I just want to say something. Can we do a list without the best player in Africa?” Chelle told reporters.
“It’s my job to decide if he can play – maybe five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes, fifty minutes, sixty minutes.
“I can’t imagine making a list without this guy. I trust him, I am so confident about him.”
Lookman was training individually before joining the Super Eagles camp.
