When Manchester City stumbled in the previous campaign, Arsenal likely saw it as the perfect opportunity to finally capture the Premier League crown.

After two straight seasons finishing in second place behind City, hopes were high for Mikel Arteta’s side.

However, those hopes were dashed once again as Liverpool surged ahead to claim their 20th league title matching Manchester United’s record in Arne Slot’s debut season at the helm.

The Gunners wrapped up the season 10 points adrift of the champions.

Looking ahead to the new season, Arteta has reinforced his squad with the arrival of powerful striker Viktor Gyokeres. The additions of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze have also strengthened their attacking options.

It’s evident that Arteta is aiming for a serious title push this time around, working to address the weaknesses that previously held them back.

Their campaign will soon face a major test away at Anfield.

Liverpool haven’t been particularly convincing in their opening matches of the season.

In both outings, they squandered two-goal advantages before managing to secure wins over Bournemouth and Newcastle.

Among the fresh faces in Slot’s title-defending side, only Hugo Ekitike has stood out so far, scoring in each of his two appearances.

Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong is sidelined due to injury, Florian Wirtz has yet to adapt to the speed of the Premier League, and Milos Kerkez has looked vulnerable at left-back.

If Liverpool are serious about defending their title, this clash presents the ideal moment to make a powerful statement to the rest of the league.

They’ll need to be at their absolute best against an Arsenal side that hasn’t conceded a single goal in the league so far and remains dangerous during set-piece situations.

Both teams currently boast perfect starts, but one or possibly both will see that run end. More crucially, the winner of this high-stakes fixture will send a clear early message in the race for the Premier League title.
