Iran’s national football team has moved its training base to Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to ongoing visa complications involving the United States.
Although visas have reportedly been approved for players and key sporting personnel, some members of the coaching staff and football federation officials have been denied entry into the US. This has created tension between Iranian authorities and US officials.
In response to the situation, the team has opted to prepare in Mexico, specifically in the border region, to ensure smooth access to the tournament despite the restrictions.
Iranian representatives have described the visa issues as unfair and politically influenced, and they are expected to raise formal concerns with FIFA.
Despite these challenges, Iran is still confirmed to participate in the tournament, with its matches scheduled to take place in US-hosted venues during the group stage.
