Djokovic Edges Rinderknech in Tough Battle to Keep Pursuit of 25th Major Alive

Novak Djokovic was pushed to his limits before eventually overcoming France’s Arthur Rinderknech in a demanding four-set match to reach the next round at Wimbledon. The Serbian star won 7-5, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4), extending his campaign as he continues his chase for a historic 25th Grand Slam singles title.

Although Djokovic secured the win, it was anything but comfortable. Rinderknech’s strong serving and aggressive baseline play consistently troubled the former champion, forcing him into long rallies and testing his patience throughout the nearly three-hour encounter.

The French player delivered one of his standout performances, striking freely and even dominating the third set to shift momentum. At that stage, a deciding fifth set looked possible, but Djokovic’s experience and composure under pressure proved crucial in the closing stages.

After the match, Djokovic expressed relief at getting through such a difficult contest. He acknowledged the quality of Rinderknech’s game, particularly his serve and fearless shot-making, which repeatedly disrupted his rhythm. The Serbian also admitted that navigating the tight moments required both resilience and a bit of luck.

A dramatic highlight came on match point, when Djokovic produced an outstanding diving volley at the net after Rinderknech slipped, sealing the victory in spectacular fashion and energizing the Centre Court crowd.

The win also added another milestone to Djokovic’s career, as he equaled Roger Federer’s record for the most men’s singles victories at Wimbledon. Only Martina Navratilova has achieved more match wins at the tournament overall.

Now 39, Djokovic continues to chase history with every match. A 25th Grand Slam title would move him beyond the current all-time record he shares and further strengthen his legacy as one of tennis’s greatest champions.

He will face Roman Safiullin in the next round, with the Serbian expected to build on this hard-fought victory as he continues his quest for another Wimbledon crown and a record-breaking major title.
