The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has expressed disappointment over the cancellation of its scheduled friendly match against Chile, which was meant to take place in Spain.
The game, set for 9 June 2026 in southern Spain, was called off by local authorities after health concerns were raised due to an Ebola outbreak in eastern DR Congo. Officials said the decision was taken as a precaution, following medical advice and uncertainty about the associated risks.
DR Congo’s football authorities described the cancellation as unjust, arguing that the national team had been preparing in Europe and was not coming directly from the affected region. They also suggested the decision may have been unfairly restrictive and disruptive to their preparations for upcoming international competitions.
The football federation is now looking into possible alternatives, including relocating the fixture or finding a new date, as both teams had initially been willing to proceed with the match under different conditions.
