Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has reaffirmed his team’s determination to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite recent setbacks.
The three-time African champions encountered a major obstacle in their qualification campaign after settling for a 1-1 draw against South Africa in Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.
With eight matches played, Nigeria currently sits in third place in Group B, having earned 11 points.
To keep their World Cup hopes alive, the Super Eagles must secure victories in their final two fixtures against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
Chelle emphasized that, regardless of their challenging position in the standings, the team will continue to push hard until the very end.
“My players are professionals and I know they will still want to win the remaining two games.
“A lot can happen over the next one month. But before that, we will have to analyse our performance tonight, which will not be easy,” he said.
The Super Eagles will be away to Lesotho when the qualifiers resume next month.
Chelle’s side will round up their qualifying campaign with an home clash with Squirrels of Benin Republic.
