Former Argentina national team coach José Pekerman has named Real Madrid’s rising star, Franco Mastantuono, as a potential successor to Lionel Messi in the Albiceleste squad.
At 76, Pekerman expressed strong confidence in Mastantuono’s abilities, stating that the young midfielder has the potential to reach a level close to that of Messi and could be instrumental in securing victories for the national side.
With Messi approaching the final chapter of his international career, he recently acknowledged that his time with the national team is nearing its end.
“I don’t know if someone will come who can replace [Lionel] Messi or who’s at a level close to his,” Pekerman told DSPorts Radio (via ESPN).
“I think Mastantuono is on his way to being a great footballer and to make history.
“The team [Argentina] has to be organized, but the one who’s going to make us win is this one [Mastantuono].”
