Former Tottenham Hotspur star Chris Waddle has issued a stark warning that the club is in serious danger of relegation to the Championship, cautioning that bringing in a new manager may not be enough to reverse their poor form.

Speaking amid Tottenham’s ongoing struggles, Waddle emphasized that the team’s problems run deeper than coaching changes and that the squad faces an uphill battle to secure Premier League survival.

A Season of Struggles

The warning comes after Tottenham parted ways with interim manager Igor Tudor following a dismal run of results, with the team winning just one of their last seven league games. Spurs currently sit 17th in the table, dangerously close to the relegation zone, with only a few matches remaining to secure safety.

Managerial Change Might Not Be Enough

Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Tudor, but Waddle cautioned that a managerial switch at this late stage “may not change the club’s fate”. The squad’s lack of confidence and cohesion, combined with ongoing tactical issues, could make survival extremely difficult even under new leadership.

Underlying Issues

Beyond the results on the pitch, analysts point to mismanagement, inconsistent recruitment, and leadership instability as contributing factors to Tottenham’s current predicament. Long winless runs at this point in the season have historically led to relegation for struggling Premier League clubs.

The Road Ahead

With every remaining game now critical, Tottenham must quickly turn their fortunes around or face the serious possibility of demotion to the Championship a move that would carry both financial and sporting consequences for one of England’s most historic clubs.
