Kosgei’s time broke the previous course record of 2:15:55, established in 2024, and ranks among the fastest marathon times ever recorded by a female athlete. This achievement places her performance among the top historical results in the sport.

The 32 year old Olympian, a two‑time Tokyo Marathon champion, led the race from the front, gradually pulling away from her competitors in the final stretch to secure a decisive victory. Her win adds another prestigious title to her career, which includes multiple World Marathon Majors successes.

Ethiopia’s Bertukan Welde finished second with a personal best of 2:16:36, while Hawi Feysa claimed third place in 2:17:39, rounding out an impressive women’s podium.

In the men’s race, Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele successfully defended his title, finishing in 2:03:37 after a thrilling sprint to the line.
