Liverpool’s flawless start to the Premier League campaign came to an end on Saturday following a dramatic late loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Prior to the defeat, the reigning champions had won all five of their opening matches and appeared on course to defend their title successfully.

However, Eddie Nketiah’s 97th-minute goal halted that momentum, bringing their unbeaten streak to a close and giving other title contenders a chance to close the gap.

Among those hoping to capitalize is Arsenal.

The Gunners managed a 1-1 draw against Manchester City last weekend, thanks to a late equalizer from Gabriel Martinelli at the Emirates Stadium.

That performance, however, drew heavy criticism for manager Mikel Arteta, particularly regarding his team selection and tactical decisions.

Arteta now turns his focus to a challenging trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

St James’ Park has not been a particularly favorable venue for him. Last season, Newcastle won three out of four encounters against Arsenal, keeping clean sheets in each of those victories.

While their defense remains strong—with four clean sheets in five games so far—Newcastle have found it difficult to score regularly, especially after the departure of Alexander Isak.

For Arteta, this match presents an opportunity to collect maximum points and reduce the gap between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Much will depend on his lineup choices. But with captain Martin Ødegaard back in action after recovering from a shoulder injury, there’s renewed hope that Arsenal can reaffirm their title ambitions.
