Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville has shared his view on how Arsenal can clinch the league title this season.

Neville supports the Gunners in ending their Premier League title drought but emphasized that it depends heavily on the decisions made by their manager, Mikel Arteta.

He stressed that Arsenal must raise their performance levels to prove they are genuine title contenders, while also questioning some of Arteta’s tactical choices, particularly in a recent match against Manchester City.

In that game, Arteta left Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli on the bench, opting instead for Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard in the starting lineup.

Erling Haaland scored for City within nine minutes, but the introduction of Eze and Martinelli in the second half helped Arsenal secure a draw.

Neville told The Overlap that Arteta needs to take things more seriously, hinting that the players might be aware their coach is making questionable decisions.

“I don’t think 60,000 or 70,000 fans can be wrong in how they feel and I don’t think any of us who were in the studio or in that stadium can be wrong either.

“I guarantee you that the dressing room, straight away, are looking at him and thinking, ‘Hmm, you’ve done it the same again, you’ve done it at Anfield and a little bit at Old Trafford, but certainly at Anfield.’

“He could have been more attacking at Anfield and he wasn’t and certainly against City from the start he could have been more attacking.

“He’s going to regret this if he doesn’t start to take the handbrake off.

“I think he picks the most defensive teams he possibly can at times in big games.

“Everybody is saying the same thing, they’re on to something,” Neville continued.

“I said Arsenal would win the league. We’re actually wanting them to step up and we’re actually saying that we think this team can step up.”

Liverpool have taken the early lead in the Premier League race, opening five points lead in the table after five matches.

Arsenal travel to Newcastle United this weekend where they will hope to return to winning ways.
