Former Liverpool Women’s manager, Matt Beard, has passed away at the age of 47.

His wife, Debbie, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a message shared on social media Saturday evening.

“With deep sorrow, we announce that our beloved Matthew Beard passed away tonight at 7:28 p.m. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. Matthew was an extraordinary and compassionate man who left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him,” she wrote.

In response to the news, Liverpool Football Club released a statement expressing their condolences: “Liverpool FC is profoundly saddened and shocked by the unexpected passing of former LFC Women manager Matt Beard. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Beard enjoyed a highly successful first tenure with Liverpool Women, leading the team to back-to-back Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. In his second stint, he successfully led the team back into the WSL in 2022 by securing promotion from the Women’s Championship.
