Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim downplayed the significance of Marcus Rashford’s first goals for Barcelona.

Rashford scored both goals in Barcelona’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Another United player out on loan, Rasmus Hojlund, also netted his first goal for Napoli during their 3-1 Serie A win against Fiorentina last weekend.

At his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s home clash with Chelsea on Saturday, Amorim was asked about Rashford’s brace at St James’ Park.

Hojlund, however, did not find the net in Napoli’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Manchester City on Thursday.

Both Rashford and Hojlund left Old Trafford on loan moves to Barcelona and Napoli respectively during the summer transfer window.

When questioned about Rashford’s performance, the former Sporting CP coach instead chose to highlight Hojlund’s goal, saying, “Rasmus scored, I am happy for Rasmus also.”

“It is the same thing with him guys. You are so tough on Rasmus but he scored also, so let’s notice that.”

Alejandro Garnacho would be returning to Old Trafford for the first time since joining Chelsea in the summer and Amorim dismissed suggestions that United’s decision to sell the 21-year-old could backfire.

“I am not concerned about that – I just want to win games,” Amorim said.
