Fulham manager Marco Silva has shed light on why new signing Samuel Chukwueze was left out of the squad for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Leeds United.
Chukwueze joined Fulham on a loan deal from AC Milan during the final hours of the transfer window and was widely expected to make his debut at Craven Cottage.
However, the 26-year-old winger did not feature in the matchday squad.
Speaking after the game, Silva explained that the decision was made to give the Nigerian international time to integrate into the team.
“It’s important for him to get to know the group and settle in first,” Silva said.
“It was impossible for Chukwueze to start, probably he doesn’t know all his teammates’ names. He had two days of training after arriving on the last day, and off to play for his country,” Silva was quoted by the club’s official website.
