Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will head into the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup without one of their standout defenders, Adamu Maigari, who has been ruled out due to injury.
Maigari picked up the injury during a training session and is not expected to recover before the tournament begins.
The right-back was instrumental in Nigeria’s campaign at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, helping the team secure a third-place finish.
He played in all six matches during the competition and earned a Man of the Match award for his performance in one of the games.
As part of their final preparations, the Flying Eagles are scheduled to travel to Chile on Sunday ahead of the tournament.
Head coach Aliyu Zubairu is set to announce the final roster for the competition on September 19.
Nigeria has been placed in Group F, where they will face Norway, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia.
