Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has explained his decision to leave Gabriel Jesus out of the club’s UEFA Champions League squad.
Jesus was not named among the 25 players Arsenal submitted to UEFA for the group stage of the competition.
The Gunners’ A-list includes only three attacking players: Viktor Gyokeres, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.
Addressing the media on Friday, Arteta revealed that the Brazilian forward is still recovering from a significant surgical procedure.
He said: “He had a major surgery and it was going to take him many, many months.
So, after discussing that with the medical staff and understanding the schedule that we had and when we thought that he could be available.
“That it would be between December and January, we decided to make that call.”
