Former England international Joe Cole believes Chelsea have what it takes to win this season’s UEFA Champions League, describing them as potential underdogs in the competition.

Cole, who spent several successful years at Stamford Bridge, sees his former club as one of the lesser-expected sides that could go all the way.

This campaign features six English teams competing in Europe’s top tournament: Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

In the previous season, Arsenal made it the furthest among the Premier League representatives, reaching the semi-finals before being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain, who went on to lift the trophy.

“I’d put them in a bracket just at the top of the dark horses and bottom of the teams who you might expect to be in the latter stages of the competition,” Cole told TNT Sports when asked to rate Chelsea’s chances in this season’s competition.

“It all depends, I think, on the performance of the goalkeeper Sanchez.”
