Former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan has alleged that Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen pretended to be injured.

Gyan’s comments came after Osimhen missed Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against South Africa on Tuesday.

Osimhen had previously returned to his club, Galatasaray, following a leg injury he reportedly suffered during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in a World Cup qualifier last weekend.

Due to the injury, the 26-year-old was absent from the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with South Africa at the Free State Stadium.

In an official statement, Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen had suffered ankle ligament damage.

Despite this, Gyan remains unconvinced and has questioned the legitimacy of the injury claim.

“I know these tricks. Someone said to Osimhen, ‘Look, we spent a lot of money on you. The Champions League is coming up. We don’t like you going to Africa, but go there and play a bit, then get injured and lie on the ground and act like it’s serious. The next day you’ll be in Türkiye,” Gyan was quoted by habersarikirmizi as saying.
