Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has identified what he considers the “biggest transfer mistake” the club has made since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
The Red Devils have struggled since Fergie retired in 2013.
They have not won a league title since then and ended last season in a disappointing 15th place.
Ferdinand has criticized the club’s approach to player recruitment.
He believes that if Manchester United had secured Harry Kane and Declan Rice, the team would be in a much stronger position today.
Kane moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich, while Rice was signed by Arsenal for £105 million.
“That’s the biggest mistake they’ve made in the last ten years,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
“I honestly think and I’m convinced that if Man United would have got Harry Kane and Declan Rice in that window, they’re in a different place now.”
