Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has expressed confidence in his team’s chances of performing well at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
The Nigerian U-20 side, who have been crowned African champions seven times, have been drawn into Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Colombia, and Norway.
Zubairu emphasized that advancing past the group stage is a top priority for the team.
“Coming out of the group is non-negotiable. We are studying our opponents closely — their strengths and individual qualities,” Zubairu told reporters.
The Flying Eagles secured third place at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations held in March.
Nigeria were runners-up at the U-20 World Cup in 1989 when the tournament was held in Saudi Arabia, and again in 2005 in the Netherlands.
