Dutch football icon Ruud Gullit believes that the core issues at Manchester United stem from within the club itself, rather than from the players.
Gullit emphasized that the internal structure and operations of the club have been flawed ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left, noting that Ferguson’s strong leadership once gave him control over nearly every aspect of the organization.
Manchester United endured yet another humiliating result on Wednesday, bowing out of the EFL Cup following a shock defeat to Grimsby Town.
Gullit highlighted how several players who departed Old Trafford have gone on to thrive elsewhere. He referenced Scott McTominay now at [Napoli], Marcus Rashford at [Aston Villa, Barcelona], and Antony at [Real Betis] as examples of players flourishing away from the club.
Last season, United finished in 15th position in the Premier League the lowest in the club’s history.
Cristiano Ronaldo was among the first to publicly criticize the deterioration at the club in the post-Ferguson era.
While players seem to shine after leaving United, many struggle to replicate the same form when playing at Old Trafford.
Despite multiple managerial changes over the years, the team has shown little progress, with departing players often reviving their careers at other clubs.
Speaking in Rondo, a talk show on Ziggo Sport, the Dutchman quoted by Transfer News Live, said, “Everyone who leaves Manchester United suddenly plays great at their new club.
“Scott McTominay at Napoli, Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa, and Antony at Real Betis. Manchester United is the problem, 100%.”
Next up for Manchester United and manager Ruben Amorim is a Premier League match against Burnley this weekend.
